This is the very first level of our Handbuilding foundation course. This course is suitable for complete beginners to handbuilding and it has a fun project-based approach to learning handbuilding techniques. This course includes: Clay prep, pinching, coiling, slab techniques and finishing basics, intro to surface decoration techniques. Bisque firing is included in this course which is the first round of firing. Students get to take home the pieces they've made. Glaze Application workshop is not a part of this course and is conducted separately.

Frequency: Two ghides sessions/week; 3 hours per session

Timings: 10 to 1 PM or 2 to 5 PM

Class Structure

Week 1: Focused on Pinch Pottery. Making mugs and bowls from pinch pots.

Week 2: Working on an assembled pinched form like a vase or egg holder. Embossed Dessert Plate and Pasta bowl. 

Week 3: Making a project using merged and exposed coils.

Week 4: Working with Leather hard slabs to build angular forms like boxes or houses.

Week 5: Exploratory sessions where students can choose to explore a project of their choice.

Inclusions

  • Unlimited studio time
  • Bisque firing of upto 15 pieces
  • Equipment usage: Hand building and sculpting tools to use at the studio.
  • Unlimited studio time can be availed by students subject to availability 

Exclusions

  • Glaze Application Workshop and glaze usage. 
  • Glazing of pieces
  • Additional clay to take home
  • Firing of any additional pieces or ones made at home

Terms

  • Missing Class: You can miss upto two classes during the course. Make up sessions for a maximum of 2 classes will be provided on stipulated dates. The compensatory classes are on weekdays only on following dates: TBD. You can pick 10 AM to 1 PM slot OR 2 to 5 PM slot. You can pick two slots out of these eight slots to compensate for your two missed classes. After these dates, there will be no make up classes or refunds. There are no exceptions to this rule, including accidents, hospitalisation, travel, family emergencies. If you're unable to makeup on the above dates, there will be no compensatory class or refund provided after the last date of the course under any circumstances.
  • Refund: Complete refund will be provided if you request to cancel your seat before 12 PM, 10 days prior to course commencement. After this date, refund will be provided only if your blocked seat gets occupied by a student on the waitlist or from your end. We will reach out to our database from our end to the best of our ability and try to fill the seat in your stead. However, if a replacement is not found before first day of class, no refunds will be provided. There are no exceptions to this rule.
  • Transferability: The seat can be transferred to a friend or family member only before the course begins.
  • Postponement: The seat cannot be deferred to a later batch under any circumstances. There are no exceptions to this rule.
