Begum is a sculptural, wheel-thrown vase made in black body stoneware clay, conceived as a collectible statement piece. Left unglazed, the surface retains the depth and matte tactility of the clay, allowing form and pattern to take precedence over sheen.

The piece draws from architectural rather than textile references. Its vertical silhouette and gold-crowned top echo the presence of minarets, ceremonial finials, and built forms that signal importance and authority. The repeated diamond pattern references geometric traditions found across South and Southeast Asia, lending the surface a sense of rhythm and order without tying it to a single regional language.

Muted, earthy tones soften the geometry, while hand-applied 23-carat gold detailing punctuates the surface and culminates in a sculpted gold knob at the top. The contrast between the matte black body and the gold creates a restrained, ceremonial quality—meant to be contemplated as much as displayed.

Begum is designed primarily as an object of presence. Whether placed on a console, shelf, or table, it functions as a standalone form—holding space rather than requiring use.
